NHL: Trade deadline passes with Martin St Louis joining New York Rangers

The New York Rangers made the biggest move on NHL Trade Deadline Day as they secured Tampa Bay Lightning captain Martin St Louis.
The veteran forward heads north in exchange for Rangers captain Ryan Callahan, a second-round pick in the 2014 draft which could become a first if the Rangers make the Eastern Conference finals, and a first rounder in the 2015 draft.
St Louis' relationship with general manager Steve Yzerman had been in the spotlight leading up to the deadline, having seen Yzerman ignore him for Canada's Olympic squad for a second time - he was eventually called up to replace the injured Steven Stamkos but only played sparingly.
"Today is a bittersweet day for me. I am sad that this chapter of my career is over," said St. Louis in a letter to fans and media distributed by the team.
"I have had 14 wonderful years in Tampa and have cherished being a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"When I arrived here in 2000, you all supported and believed in me when not many did. You have continued to support me through the years and I am extremely thankful for it! I know many of you are disappointed with me for my decision to want to leave."
St Louis made a quick debut for the Rangers on Wednesday night, but he was held scoreless as they fell to a 3-2 defeat by the Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden.
The Lightning-Rangers deal was the highlight of a busy deadline which saw a number of goaltenders on the move.
The Washington Capitals made a move for Jaroslav Halak, who had only been with the Buffalo Sabres for just over a week after a previous trade from the St Louis Blues, with another goalie Michal Neuvirth going in the opposite direction.
Veteran netminder Tim Thomas is now a member of the Dallas Stars in another goalie swap, with Dan Ellis heading to the Florida Panthers, and Calgary traded Reto Berra to Colorado for a second round pick.
Among the skaters traded, the other big move saw the Los Angeles Kings bring in Marian Gaborik for Matt Frattin and a pair of draft picks - the Kings also acquired defenseman Brayden McNabb from Buffalo in a separate deal.
And the Montreal Canadiens won the race for New York Islanders forward Thomas Vanek, trading prospect Sebastien Collberg and a conditional second round pick for the Austrian winger.
