Pittsburgh have confirmed that veterans Troy Polamalu and Heath Miller have signed new three-year contracts.
Star
safety Polamalu and tight end Miller have committed to the Steelers
until the end of the 2016 season, although financial terms of the two
deals were not released. Both are reported to have accepted pay cuts as the franchise struggle to comply with the NFL's strict salary cap regulations.
Polamalu played every defensive snap last season and made 85 tackles while also claiming two interceptions and forcing five fumbles.
The first-round pick in the 2003 Draft has made 144 career starts for Pittsburgh, earning eight Pro Bowl selections and being named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2010.
The 32-year-old was rumoured to be considering testing the free-agency market, but he is now likely to finish his career as a Steeler.
Fellow stalwart Miller, 31, was also a first-round Draft pick in 2005 and has started 148 games for the club.
He ranks in the all-time franchise top 10 in receptions (466), receiving yards (5,273) and receiving touchdowns (40), which are all Steelers records for a tight end.
Miller has recorded at least one reception in 81 consecutive games, the second longest run in franchise history behind wide receiver Hines Ward.
Both Polamalu and Miller played pivotal roles in Pittsburgh's two Super Bowl-winning teams in 2006 and 2009.
