The Los Angeles Kings secured a place in the Western Conference play-offs with a 4-0 shut-out of the Phoenix Coyotes.
Drew
Doughty and Anze Kopitar made the most of power-play chances to score
for the 2012 Stanley Cup champions and Jonathan Quick needed to make
only 17 saves for his sixth shut-out of the season in a dominant
display.Defeat leaves the Coyotes sweating on their own post-season hopes as they are tied on 85 points with the Dallas Stars for eighth place in the West, but the Stars have two games in hand.
Tanner Pearson gave the Kings the lead inside 80 seconds with his third goal of the season and Doughty grabbed their second goal early in the second period.
Jeff Carter took a pass from Pearson to make it 3-0 with 9:10 on the clock in the third, and 40 seconds later Kopitar wrapped up the scoring.
Assist
They could face local rivals the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the play-offs, and the Ducks continued their good form with a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers.Philip Larsen and Jordan Eberle gave the Oilers a 2-0 lead 2:51 into the final period but the Ducks finally beat their former goaltender Viktor Fasth not long after Eberle's goal through Corey Perry, who went on to level the scores with eight minutes remaining.
And that set up defenseman Francois Beauchemin to be Anaheim's hero as he fired a shot past Fasth with just over a minute remaining, Perry claiming an assist on a three-point night.
The league-leading Boston Bruins were beaten 3-2 by the Detroit Red Wings, with in-form center Gustav Nyquist claiming their third period winner.
And the Ottawa Senators suffered a blow in their bid for an Eastern Conference play-off place when they dropped a 2-1 decision against the New York Islanders, for whom Josh Bailey had a goal and an assist.
