The Boston Bruins secured the top seed in the
NHL Eastern Conference with a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers
at TD Garden on Saturday.
Johnny Boychuk scored the tie-breaking
goal at 13:54 in the third period and Milan Lucic's second goal of the
game stretched the lead 31 seconds later as the Bruins snapped a
two-game skid, ensuring they will head into the Stanley Cup play-offs as
the East's top seed for the first time since 2009.Washington snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout triumph over the New York Islanders, Evgeny Kuznetsov netting in regulation and the only goal in the shootout to get the Capitals within two points of Columbus for the final Eastern Conference play-off berth.
Montreal moved a step closer to guaranteeing home-ice advantage in the first round of the play-offs, Brian Gionta's second goal of the game snapping a 3-3 tie at 13:13 of the third period to lift the Canadiens to a 5-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.
Paul Stastny, Nathan MacKinnon and Nick Holden were all on target in the first 10:25 of the second period to set Colorado on their way to a 4-0 win over the St Louis Blues, Semyon Varlamov making 31 saves for the Avalanche.
Carter Hutton made 35 saves en route to his first career shutout as the Nashville Predators kept alive their slim play-off prospects with a 3-0 win over San Jose which dented the Sharks' hopes for a division title.
Jason Spezza grabbed the winner in the second period and Robin Lehner made 41 saves in the Ottawa Senators' 3-2 success against the New York Rangers 3-2 at Madison Square Garden - a result which prevented the Rangers from clinching a post-season berth.
Minnesota edged closer to a play-off spot with a 4-0 triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ilya Bryzgalov making 20 saves for his second shutout with the Wild as they moved six points ahead of the Phoenix Coyotes in the Western Conference's wild-card battle.
In other games, the Winnipeg Jets saw off the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2, the Dallas Stars were 5-2 winners against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the New Jersey Devils beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 and the Vancouver Canucks edged past the Los Angeles Kings 2-1.
