Canada successfully defended their
Olympic men's ice hockey title after clinching a 3-0 victory over Sweden
in the gold medal match in Sochi.
Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz all scored as Canada completed an unbeaten run through the tournament.Carey Price made 24 saves to record his second straight shutout having also prevented the USA from scoring in the semi-finals.
Sweden had also won all five of their matches in the tournament so far, but in the final struggled to compete in the way many felt them capable of.
Toews sneaked Canada ahead in the first period following an assist from Jeff Carter and they may have added a second only for Swedish goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to foil Matt Duchene.
There was no surprise when national hero Crosby, who grabbed the gold-medal winning goal in Vancouver four years ago, made it 2-0 when he raced clear on the break before beating Lundqvist.
It always looked more likely that Sweden would lose a third than get back in to the game and indeed Kunitz flashed the puck past Lundqvist in the third period to seal the deserved win for Canada.
The result completed a golden double for Canada, their women's team having already taken the Olmypic title in Sochi.
