NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins beat Buffalo Sabres to set 40th win record

Pittsburgh Penguins set a new franchise record by claiming a 40th win in 57 games courtesy of a 5-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
The win means the Penguins are the quickest team to reach the 40-win mark, eclipsing the previous mark of 65 games set in 1995-96.
Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal, Brian Gibbons and Harry Zolnierczyk scored for Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh, while Drew Stafford netted the consolation goal for Buffalo, who have now not won in eight at home.
Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews scored the goals and Corey Crawford made 29 saves in his first shutout of the season as Chicago Blackhawks beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-0.
The win lifted Chicago to within point of Anaheim for the overall NHL lead.
The two teams had 15 combined Olympians on the Honda Center ice, including five key members of the Canadian team headed to Sochi.
Tommy Wingels scored with just over three minutes remaining in overtime to give San Jose a 2-1 win over Dallas.
Marty Havlat scored in regulation and set up the game-winner to give the struggling Sharks a much-needed boost with just one game left before the Olympic break.
Valeri Nichushkin tied the game early in the third for the Stars, who came up short in their attempt to sweep a three-game road trip and move into playoff position in the Western Conference.
Dallas trails Vancouver by two points in the race for the final play-off spot.
